Carla Alcantara and Sara CusidóAt the end, after the organisation’s disaster on Saturday 14th November, last weekend, on Saturday 21st, the new skate park of Mollet del Vallès was opened. The inauguration was from 11 a.m. and lasted until the night. Skaters, rollers and bikers were waiting for a long time to have a new park more professional than the old one; because of this, the first imprison was good and they were really excited about having it already finished. But, later, they realised that the architectonical structure wasn’t all right. There were small details that have disliked the people that are going to use it. There was a big pyramid in the middle of the park impossible to jump without falling. The fact that the skate park is surrounded by sand makes skaters and rollers think that the new one is a dangerous skate park, because the sand could cover the skate rink; these people share the idea: “Sand is the enemy of skaters”. Skaters and rollers are also angry because the skate park is more dedicated to bikers than to them.
In addition, the skate park, that measures 1200m2, has cost nearly 524.000€; and they think that it’s a really strong inversion. The people that want to use it think that this prize is too much money for what really is the skate park. They also think that the people who have built up it have spent too much money in little and unnecessary things; and of this is made up this large prize. Skaters say the new building isn’t accord with the skate park they were waiting for.
Politicians defend themselves explaining their first idea: “The new skate park was thought to be used by skaters, bikers and rollers, and this is why there are some advantages and disadvantages for all of them”; those are the words that they hide behind to incriminate themselves. But people talk, and they disagree with them, they want changes.
The voice of the teenagers arrived to the politician’s ears, and they tried to satisfy them. During this week they have been correcting some details that people dislike. The tall pyramid has been erased, but the sand still being around the park and it still being a problem.
